Listening to Liminals – Peter J McCauley

I discovered Peter J McCauley during the Atlantic Sessions, an annual music festival in Portstewart. He was playing on a wild November night with the Atlantic thrashing a stone’s throw away. It was a gig with his friend and collaborator David C Clements. I’d heard Clements was a brilliant live performer (true!) but wasn’t familiar with McCauley’s work. All I can say is – wow! Two amazing live artists on one stage, accompanied by the Arco String Quartet (all members of the Ulster Orchestra).

Want to hear the best bit? It was a free gig! So, after a fantastic night of music, all I can say is – check these guys out if you get the chance. You can hear them on Spotify but McCauley also has his own Bandcamp page where you can download the Liminals EP – or even gift it to someone else. Reservoir is the standout song for me but maybe that’s just because the live version blew me away – a really raw, haunting performance that stayed with me. Minerals is similarly melancholy while Borders is more uplifting.
